The Total Flirt

We’re getting closer to releasing the Total Flirt app (iPhone and Android)! In preparation, I made a short and sassy walkthrough video of the app – I had a lot of fun making it. The images are screengrabs from the iPhone version, and the app has a few more improvements and a lot more information in the final version. We’re just waiting for Apple now… fingers crossed that all goes well. Because the Total Flirt book is coming out earlier than expected, it will probably all be available at the same time. Possibly even next week. Phew!

I hope you like the video! I wrote it, filmed it with my Lumix, and did the editing in iMovie. I’ll post here when the app goes live, or you can keep an eye on our Total Flirt Twitter account, Total Flirt on Facebook, or the main Total Flirt app page.

While flirting with the internets, I found likealittle and within minutes I’ve fallen deep in like – and I wish it wasn’t just for college students! It’s one of the cutest, funnest anonymous flirting websites (only flirting website?) I’ve ever seen. I can see how likealittle is so incredibly addictive for everyone on it, and I love that it’s all anonymous. They keep it sweet, flirty, and anon! Yay! This is how The Chicago Sun-Times describes the site:

(…) Likealittle.com, the latest social networking site to sweep America campus-by-campus, has taken off locally in the last month. Started Oct. 25 by Stanford University students, the site facilitates anonymous flirting in a “missed connection” format. The site describes itself as a “flirting-facilitator platform,” a place where anyone can “compliment and chat about potential crushes you see around you.”

(…) The website bans sexist, harassing or demeaning comments. [Katelyn] Newey sees the anonymous positivity as a way to bring her commuter campus closer together. “It’s by no means an online dating website, it’s a fun way of flirting,” she said. (…read more, suntimes.com)

What hooked me was visiting the site and reading likealittle‘s “About” page. I teach at UCSF’s extension – does that count!? Here’s to hoping some savvy web entrepreneur figures out how to make likealittle happen for the rest of us!

Finally, in the event that this site proves ineffective in getting you a date, phone number, or email address, our final suggestion is to carry around a picture of a cute puppy (+10 to your charisma if its tongue is sticking out) and gratuitously pull it out in every social situation. Development Derring-Do
We released version 1.0 in October 2010 after 90 cumulative years of frustrated flirtation, 42 cups of coffee, and 12 hours of hardcore development. The site was born at Stanford, in part, due to my lack of game with women. At the moment, Like a Little is only localized to a few college campuses, but we are looking to bring it to other colleges around the country. Confessions of a PUA Super Girl is not brand new, but it is required reading for all girls on the prowl. The author, Jessi Fischer (AKA “The Sexademic”) holds a Master of Arts in Sexuality Studies from San Francisco State University and is a professional public speak, among other things.

My book Total Flirt and forthcoming app has a lot of secrets and techniques from so-called “secret societies of pick-up artists” – male enclaves that trade on tricks and psychological techniques to “seduce” girls. These guys won’t like seeing me reveal, hand over and re-style their tricks to women – especially because I’m basically arming you with them so you can get what you want. Whatever that may be.

Fischer spent time a year ago with a couple professional “PUAs” and I’ve talked to her about what she learned, at length, largely in research for my Total Flirt book. She wrote about it in this post, with some great thoughts about how they view and treat girls. If you like her post, you’ll LOVE my book – and you’ll really love the app (for Apple and Android). In the UK, “pulling” is the term for scoring. That sounds kind of blunt, but it’s just as much about flirting successfully as it is about getting someone to go home with you. Pulling is basically the act of attracting: flirting, seducing, picking up, pulling a date (dating). British sex educator Dr. Petra Boyton Ph.D. has a long but worth-it article you’ll want to read that covers the study of “pulling” and so much more. In Reporting back on the ‘Science of Pulling’ – making science work for you, you’ll learn about doing just that: how science can make your flirt game and your dating life better.

I like that in it, we get factual, practical tips on how scientists study dating, the science behind it, thoughts about finding “the one,” all about dating websites and their data, debunking the “self help” industry, and loads of tips to improve your chances and experiences at dating. Last Wednesday as part of the British Science Festival we put theory into action with a Science of Pulling evening where we heard about the evidence base around dating and relationships and applied this knowledge at the festival’s first speed dating event.

The event was sold out and fortunately all those who attended were willing to have fun, ask questions, share stories and most importantly speed date at the newly refurbished MAC.
